Last year, I wrote (somewhere) that I was, for the first time since the Bad Hair Day tour, was going to miss 'Weird Al' Yankovic at Westbury Music Fair. And, for those of you who don't know, the first album I ever bought was by Al, I own a copy of every CD Al has ever put out, and have White And Nerdy as my iPhone's ringtone, so me missing him play live was a bit of a bummer.
Well, I decided to go to his website today and discovered that he will be continuing his Straight Outta Lynwood tour this year, and will be coming to Westbury Music Fair on July 10th. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't totally pumped, and I'd be doubly lying if I said I didn't know how pathetically nerdy this is, but I've never let that stop me before.
That is, if you have a Mac.
See, if you open your Software Updates program in OS X, and have GarageBand, you'll see a new update in there. And, if you've got GarageBand and an iPhone, you'll be interested to hear that there's a new "Send Ringtone To iTunes" option in the 'Share' menu. You might also be interested to know that if you drag a MP3 or AAC file into the GarageBand window, you can take any song (that isn't bogged down with DRM, naturally) and make it a ringtone.
This makes me happy on all sorts of levels, between not having to pay for iToner (although I did pay for GarageBand, but whatever) and certainly not wanting to spend $0.99 for the honor of using iTunes to make a ringtone on a song I already bought. Hopefully, this does that to you, too.
You can read a full tutorial on how to do it on Apple's website, and thanks to The Unofficial Apple Weblog for pointing this out.
